The Bay Area's pickleball scene splits clearly: city play is competitive and resourceful, while the South Bay and East Bay are sprawling and abundant. San Jose's Calabazas, Cupertino's Memorial, and Mountain View's Cuesta Park are dawn-busy. Oakland (Mosswood) and Berkeley (San Pablo) cover the East Bay public side. SF proper has fewer courts but they're scrappy and welcoming.

Indoor play is rare in the city itself, so most year-round players head to The Dome (San Jose), Palo Alto's Cubberley, or one of the Peninsula clubs that recently added courts. Bay Area weather is mostly forgiving, but the morning fog and afternoon wind in SF can shift game plans fast. Bring a windbreaker even in July.

The crowd here is technical, patient, and quick to invite a stranger into a game.
